Nice addition to a small vise

My table vise is so many decades old that the rubber on the jaws started breaking apart and falling off. I was shocked at the price of a new one – in the hundred dollar range. I was happy to find these replacement jaws. They aren’t an absolute exact match in terms of fit, but they stay on well because of the magnetic properties, and now I can use my vise again.

These jaws have seen several instances of light duty use since I got them and they perform really well.My only real complaint is the strength of the magnets.The magnets are fairly weak and the jaws can shift or come free of the vice from time to time.(Which is sort of understandable since the jaws have a cross-hatch pattern for grip)Another little thing is that they are printed on the top edge with the Shop Fox name, which is great, but they also say CHINA in big black letters on the other end.I remedied mine with a wire brush. Looks a lot better now.

I'm not much of a handy man. But I do the occasional work around the house and other projects. I sort of bought these vise jaws on a whim. Now they are pretty much permanently attached to my vise. I can't think of much that they wouldn't work on. You can apply a lot of pressure without damaging whatever it is you are trying to hold. It leaves no marks and the rubber sticks better to most materials like plastic and metal. Even wood stays on pretty firm and you don't get that grip pattern from the metal jaws. Only negative is that the magnets really don't do a good job of holding these jaws onto the vise. But it's not that big of a deal. I would recommend these, I think that once you have them, you'll wonder how you got by before. I remember the days of wrapping a cloth or something else …

The stock image is inaccurate. It shows the magnets taking up the full inside vertical height of the grip. Instead, they are oriented toward the bottom. If you have a vice with a thin upper lip (3/8" primary grip, and 1/4" of inset grip below it), then the magnets prefer to hold to the upper section, which means the jaws move upward unnaturally, and make it easy for them to fall off as they are knocked gently.If the magnets were actually oriented as in the image, they would grip evenly to the top grip, and wouldn't have a tendency to float up on the vice jaws.The rubber pads and magnets still work, but it would be so easy to improve them.

Needed these to protect certain projects from being damaged by the jaw "teeth" on my vice. My vice has 4 3/4" jaws, which means these extend beyond the ends but that also allows me to shift them side to side as needed. Have used the homemade wooden ones and using tape, but these magnetic jaw protectors are great. When I need the protection I just slip them on and the magnets hold them in place and they are removed just as easily when you need the "teeth" of the jaws for extra hold. And with the magnets they attach to the top of my tool chest where they are readily available. The rubber facing seems to hold things fast in applications like light sanding, drilling or when you need to work on something and you don't want to mar the visible finish. I looked at alot of vise jaw protectors on Amazon before ordering these and I was not disappointed. They snapped right onto my vise with the built in magnets holding the to the face of the jaws. I then clamped my Glock 27 into the vise and changed out the sights with no problems. They protected the surface of the gun well and when I opened the vise they stayed attached to the jaws and did not stick to the face of the gun. I used them for a snug plus grip on the gun. I did not try them in a situation requiring a hard clamping action yet but would not anticipate a problem.I do wish that they came in more widths as I had to buy a 5" set to use on a 4-1/2" jaw face vise. The placement of the magnets allowed me to overhand a 1/4 inch on both ends with no problems so I am pleased with these.I …
