If you need a global shutter, this is a good device
First off, global shutter cameras are more expensive and typically lower resolution than typical rolling shutter cameras, so if you don't need the feature, there are far more capable cameras. However, if you don't want moving subjects to be distorted (for anything requiring metrics, and in particular machine vision), this is a good and relatively inexpensive option.Out of the box, it worked with OpenCV my Mac, with no drivers to install. I ran a few tests to see that, yes indeed, this has a global shutter. It provides good image quality at a 30 fps frame rate, and has an adjustable focus lens (there is a retaining screw you have to loosen first if you want to adjust).All in all, a good little cam for playing around with machine vision, where distortion-free video is important.
